What You Should Know About Aromatherapy

Scent is a powerful thing. It has the ability to bring back memories from the ancient past and revive people that you haven`t seen in decades, just with a single whiff. Because of this, aromatherapy is something that has become very useful as a therapeutic aide.

Many people are aware that simple things like the smell of lemon smells clean and peppermint is often an aroma that reminds us of freshness and energy. But the actual amount of aromatherapy options out there can be overwhelming and there are quite a few things that those not steeped in knowledge of aromatherapy may not be aware of.

Some Oils Are Dangerous

Did you know that aromatherapy shouldn`t be used with all essential oils? Some oils are actually toxic and this may not be noted by the seller. Essential oils such as wormwood, camphor and rue are actually bad for you and shouldn`t ever be applied to the skin. It`s always good to know which oils shouldn`t be used in aromatherapy.

Other toxic herbs that shouldn`t be used with aromatherapy include wintergreen, sweet birth, Spanish broom, arnica, pennyroyal, onion, garlic and bitter almond. You may wish to talk to a professional before starting in on any aromatherapy work, just to be sure you know which oils are safe and which shouldn`t be used.

Aromatherapy Isn`t Just Mental

A common misconception is that aromatherapy is only a way to help your state of mind. It`s far more than that, though and you`ll find that some of the simplest smells can actually have a physical effect on your body, especially when applied to the skin. It`s important not to apply pure essential oil directly to the skin, you`ll need a carrier oil, first so it won`t burn you.

Drops of lavender oil on a pillow can induce sleep and a massage with peppermint is great for stimulating blood flow and waking you up. These herbs have physical effects, not just emotional or mental ones. Tea tree oil is perhaps one of the best known essential oils and is commonly used to heal all manner of maladies by simply applying it to the affected area.

The Methods of Aromatherapy

The great thing about aromatherapy is that if you don`t enjoy massage or prefer not to use a specific method of diffusing the smell, there are always other options.

Massage with an essential oil in a carrier oil can be very invigorating or relaxing, depending on the smells chosen. Diffusers are some of the most common methods of spreading the scent and consist of a heater (often a candle) and a container for the oil. Sometimes the oil is added to wax chips that release the scent as they melt. There are also aromatherapy candles on the market and sprays. You can also add a couple of drops of essential oil to a sink or tub of hot water or even onto a handkerchief or cloth to tuck inside your pillowcase or pocket.

Aromatherapy is a very useful way to treat problems or to enhance a state of mind. If you find that you are drowsy in the morning when you need to get ready for work, it can be a great idea to have a diffuser ready to go with an invigorating aroma. Likewise, a soothing one at bedtime eases the transition from being wide awake to sleep and has been used by insomniacs for hundreds of years now. Aromatherapy is a great way to connect with your family, as well, using their sense of smell to draw them in!

Have We Created A Monster?

As of July 2008 California banned the use of hand-held phones while driving. Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, Washington, the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands have a similar law; and I was fine with that until I heard about new research from Japan. According to the research, drivers think they are safer when they are using hands-free phone options; and because of that, they are driving faster and having more accidents. Knowing this, people who think all phone use should be banned while driving should call their legislators - from a land line.

According to the market research company, The Radical Group, calling your legislators would be better than e-mailing them. The company reports there are more than 20 billion e-mails a day worldwide and the number is growing. Because managing e-mail is interfering with work getting done, companies are developing both technical and behavioral solutions. Some companies are discouraging the use of the “reply all” feature of e-mail. Microsoft cut e-mail by 20% using instant messaging and the telephone. Other companies are instituting e-mail-free Fridays. Is it just me or does the “e” in e-mail now stand for enough!

Enough is often the word parents use about the volume of their children’s music, but they aren’t the only ones who are worried about the negative effects of loud music. Scientists in St. Petersburg, Russia are worried that vibrations from rock concerts in Winter Square are damaging the art collection in the nearby Heritage Museum. According to these researchers, vibrations above 82 decibels at ten concerts can age artwork a year. Because of that research, the Rolling Stones were asked to keep their concert below that decibel level. Although I’m sure the Stones did their best to comply, only the Beach Boys make “Good Vibrations”.

The vibrations weren’t good at a small company in Pennsylvania and that’s why a former receptionist went to federal court to file a discrimination charge against her employer. The receptionist felt that being asked to bring him coffee at 3 pm every day was discriminatory. When she refused to do it, she was fired. Now is it just me or are we expected to be so politically correct that common courtesy has to be written into job descriptions? The employer thought he had made a reasonable request and the federal judge agreed. Being asked to bring your boss coffee doesn’t provide grounds - for discrimination.

Discover The Cutting Edge Of Digital Cameras

In the jungle that is the saturated gadget market it is all too easy get completely lost. This article offers impartial reviews of the three cutting-edge digital cameras out there today. Considerations such as price, efficiency and technology offer an objective guide through the wilderness of the digital cameras market.

First up is the Canon EOS 1000D DSLR. The good news is that with live view digital technology and SD card compatibility there are great quality images combined with excellent colour and focussing capabilities. The bad news is that the live view feature tends to have a relatively slow response time and the camera is very expensive when compared to other models of a similar specification. As far as cutting-edge digital cameras go this one is easy to use with comprehensive instructions for use and downloading, however for about 500GBP it is very pricy where other models offer similar features for much less.

The next digital camera up for review is the Olympus E-520 DSLR. This camera comes with 10 mega-pixel resolution and is packed with mouth watering kit such as anti dust system, image stabilisation, four thirds system and a competitive price for the specification. The large LCD live view display allows 100 percent field however this is counteracted by the small view finder which only allows around 95 percent. There is a modest 3-point AF set-up and potentially some white balance issues however it is an improvement on the previous flagship digital SLR, E-510 and for 500GBP is fantastic value for money.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX3 digital camera is brand spanking new, so much that it has not even been priced yet. After a sneak preview of the preproduction model the verdict looks good. It is a beautifully compact digital camera that maintains the 10 mega-pixel resolution, not responding to other manufacturers race for higher resolutions. The handling, design, image, lens and manual control are all outstanding however it does posses some pre-production teething problems such as image softness, however this will be corrected before it goes into production. With a predicted price of around 350GBP it is the cutting-edge in compact digital cameras.

These three models of digital cameras represent the latest models from some of the main players in the market. They are a cross section of different specifications and models and all the information is provider from an impartial as objective assessment of the pros and cons of each model.

Top Reasons Why Real Estate in Frisco TX is on The Rise

Frisco, Texas is on the rise as one of the fastest growing cities in the US due to its outstanding location just minutes from the Dallas / Fort Worth metroplex. The town is located in the booming “Golden Corridor” along the newly extended Dallas North Tollway.

Frisco straddles Collin and Denton counties, and offers prime real estate on the east and west side of the North Dallas Tollway. It is bordered by the City of Little Elm to the west (Lake Lewisville), Plano to the east which is close to the Northern tip of Dallas. It takes roughly 25 minutes to reach downtown from Frisco, TX.

The City of Frisco has kept up with the population explosion by building new venues for entertainment, shopping and dining. Residents of this exciting city don’t have to venture far to find sporting events at the Dr. Pepper Center and Rough Riders Stadium or shopping at Stonebriar Mall. Restaurants and retail outlets are cropping up as fast as they can be built, making Frisco Texas a great place to live!

Frisco Texas Real Estate

You can find Frisco Real Estate for just about every need from the townhomes of the Bella Casa neighborhood off the Tollway by DR Horton to the new homes in Grayhawk, to the existing homes in The Trails of West Frisco, there is no end to the home and custom homes you’ll find.

Frisco also has a number of golf courses and luxury estates by customer builders such as Huntington Homes, Highland and Sotherby. Luxury homes with such features as fireplaces and swimming pools are available in subdivisions such as Stonebriar Creek, Starwood, and the Villages of Stonebriar Park. Although the majority of housing options are single-family homes, there are some condos and townhouses available starting in the mid-$100,000s. Because of the explosive growth in Frisco, land and lots for custom home builds are available, but they are going fast.

Frisco is loaded with new home neighborhoods and local home builders such as Mercedes Homes and David weekley. Frisco Schools

Frisco Texas Schools are great because of the low teacher-student ratio. It’s as much of a privilege to teach in Frisco as it is to be a student here. Frisco ISD is considered to be among the fastest growing school districts growing by 20 to 30% annually for the past eight years. In 1995 Frisco had just four schools, today we have 29 new schools in development with 18 of those schools currently functioning.

Frisco continues to raise the standardized test score averages of its students, which are well above state and national averages.

FISD takes security seriously with a number of safety/security systems in place or underway. The security measures implemented for the schools include high resolution cameras in highly traffic areas, security on campus and controlled access.

The sizes of the schools in Frisco are intentionally smaller than the national average. Elementary schools are built to educate 700 students, middle schools serve 800 to 1,000 and high schools serve just 1500 to 1800 students. The reason for Frisco’s commitment to smaller teacher/student ratio is to allow teachers and students to form better relationships and to serve the children’s need to be involved in extracurricular activities.

How Not To Get Your Wires Crossed

There is nothing more irritating then stumbling over a few wires that are all very important in keeping your PC system running. Patch panels, network cables and power supplies alike are the very important source for many of these machines to keep on running at a good speed and good rate, however, if one of these is pulled through sheer honest mistake then the whole thing goes ‘kaput’, to put it lightly!

This is not such a comical event, especially if they depend upon this to function on top form, for many companies the computing system is the very heart of their companies running, especially if they have all been networked with each other and share client information. The patch panels are what makes the networking happen; these are considered the central point of which the network cables end.

The networks that use patch panels look like a big giant burst of wires all connecting to a hub. The wires connect together with other machines such as computers and printers, making it useful to link each one with other and making it easier to keep each machine communicating with each other. Another use for it is connecting the Local Area Network (LAN) to a Wide area Network (WAN). The fact remains patch panels have become more useful now than ever before and have come a long way since their early switchboard uses during the 1930’s and 1940’s.

Keeping the wires tidy and in order is the difficult part. The amount of times I have been to the control room or have taken a look at the hub and thought to myself ‘how on earth do the technical team manage to resolve any problems in this mass of heaped mess’; this is nothing to the number of times issues have risen over failed network connection or technical problems. However, as much as one may wonder, the technical team manage it and they have a carefully planned action, which has become routine for them.

With each wire I have noticed that they are coloured differently however, some are similar to others. Various wires come in different shapes and sizes, but this still does not prevent people from forgetting and getting confused. A simple solution is to label each wire with a coloured sticker, naming each wire and keeping a note of which machine it is connected to. Another useful tip is to keep a list nearby of the various connections, which machines have been connected and keeping this by the central hub.

As there will be a lot of slack and extra wire hanging about, often these are placed underground or wrapped with a wire tidy. This way there is a reduced amount of pressure and weight, which can often cause the wire to loosen and disconnect. Often heavy duty wires can eventually become loose and droop causing a disconnection due to the weight of the cable. It is a good idea to keep the wire rested from the bottom for the extra give and support so the weight of the wire will not be pulled down so hard.

Another good practise for keeping connections strong and clutter free is to keep the central hub free from obstruction and in a separate unit of the room, so it will not be knocked about and will not have anything leaning against it. Wall mounted encloses are good if you have the space and is recommended for most patch panel connection.

Anna Stenning has had plenty of experience with patch panels and network cables which have come loose over time.

An Analysis Of The Latest Home Cinema Technology

Home cinema was predicted to be the death of the movie theatre but it seems no matter what they come up with, people will go to the pictures. Technological developments in home cinema over the last decade have been unprecedented and the latest must have home cinema commodity is your own digital projector. There are many models, some affordable others less than and this article provides essential advice on what is hot and what is not.

The very cutting edge is allegedly the Sanyo PLV-Z700 which will be available from October 2008. Word on the cyber-street is that it will come in at over 1500GBP however this is speculative, making it the most expensive of the three models being reviewed. It is full HD home cinema delivering 1080p content and excellent contrast levels. The real feature of this model is that it has a variable iris which corrects itself 60 times a second, making the light variable to what scene is being projected. There are advanced home cinema options and it is being eagerly awaited.

As the product has yet to be tried and tested by consumers one cannot accurately comment on the quality. The BenQ W500 home cinema projector is on the market and comes in at 1499GBP, roughly the same price as the awaited Samsung. It is a beast of a projector and a ceiling mount is the best fitting for it as it lacks any horizontal shift in the lens. It has a projection range of 2-8 metres and the projection range of 40 to 300 inches, so you must have the minimum space to project. The image quality is excellent and there is a variable brightness so complete blackout is not necessary.

589GBP for a home cinema projector sounds a bit like a back of a lorry job, but the Acer H530home cinema projector actually costs that amount. That is close to 1000GBP cheaper than BenQ and granted it is not HD technology but it is a great alternative to a second 42 inch plasma screen. It is extremely compact, more or less silent and, well it is under 600 quid. As with most sub 1000GBP models there is some colour-wheeling, but it is an excellent model for a first time buyer to test the home cinema technology.

As with many technologies you get what you pay for and home cinema technology is continually being rendered obsolete. Your purchase should be made with your usage in mind, bearing in mind that without warranty, home cinema projectors can be expensive to maintain especially if you have a reoccurring fault. Most consumers will only use it occasionally so the decision has to be made, is it worth investing the better part of two grand in something that will not be used regularly?

Christmas Cruises: Getting the Best Deal

If you feel the need for a break from the cold and snow, then a Christmas cruise may be exactly what the doctor ordered. Because these cruises are in the winter, some of the best deals can be found for you and your family. With such deals, you can plan the perfect cruise in order to escape the depressing cold weather.

Affordable winter cruises are made possible because the major cruise lines frequently offer winter cruises for ridiculously low rates. You can travel to places such as the Caribbean and South America for lower rates than in the summer. You can also take cruises to such locations as Australia and Asia. Perhaps you might want to see the Northern Lights. They are only visible between the months of November and March, so there are some great winter cruises that make seeing them quite possible. It is true that it is a bit cold when you move to the north, but getting there consists of warm climates and beautiful sights.

Saving More Money

There are also deals that include roundtrip airfare, so look for these bundled deals to see how much money you can save on getting to your launch location. This is a lot better than having to buy all of your plane tickets separately from your cruise tickets. The airlines and the cruise lines work out deals together to give you the best rates possible. By giving you the best rates possible, it makes it more likely that you’re going to take your family on a Christmas cruise.

Another way to get the best deal on your Christmas cruise is to look for certain dates that offer 2-for-1 cruise fares. These dates are frequently found between November and the second week of December. It is true that two weeks before Christmas hardly qualifies as Christmas, but you can find some of the best deals during this period since Christmas cruises are becoming more and more popular. Consider it an early Christmas present to your family. You can also think of the fact that you will be home in time for everyone to have family time and for the kids to be home to open their gifts from Santa on Christmas morning.

Then again, you can take your family on a cruise after Christmas because the rates tend to drop right after the holiday is over. You can take that Christmas money that was given to you by relatives and invest in cruise tickets for the family. This also means that a winter cruise may make a great gift for that special couple in your family. The possibilities are literally endless. And if you want to celebrate the Christmas holiday on a cruise ship, you can do that as well. By taking advantage of bundled deals and discount coupons that can be found on the internet and various travel sites, you can still take a Christmas cruise on a budget.

A Great Idea

So if you’re looking for that perfect winter vacation and you want to do something different and really special for you and your family, this is a great way to go. It has only been in recent times that individuals have realized the uniqueness and the fun that is associated with a winter cruise. It helps get rid of those winter blues in ways you could not imagine. What’s even better is that you’ll come home renewed and refreshed from fun in the sun and beautiful sites. That may cause your friends and family to start gathering up Christmas cruise tickets of their own for the next year.

A chartered yacht makes an excellent venue for any special occassion or event, including Christmas Cruises. When looking for Toronto harbour cruises, consider Klancy’s Charters.

Heating Utopia Under Your Floorboards

Would it not be such a nice thing to walk into your house during the cold winter months and feel the warmth from your own floorboards, rather than having to wait for the radiators to kick in and circulate heat evenly? Or perhaps the thought of having your bare feet touch a nice cool tiled floor in your kitchen, during the hot sticky summer months may seem more appealing than an expensive fan that seems to circulate warm air around the room.

It is a fact the electric underfloor heating systems are much more energy efficient and highly effective in doing the job better. Radiant heating are more common in the UK than underfloor heating as they are effective in keeping heat circulated at top levels and helps the upper level rooms warm. However, much of the heat is wasted as heat rises and becomes trapped amongst the ceiling area, or is lost through gaps and doorways.

Electric underfloor heating tends to keep the body warmer from the waist down rather than just the top half like radiant heating. Due to heat rising from a lower level underneath the surface, it warms up the room without comprising or losing any heat energy. Therefore, no heat is wasted and it is unlikely to escape. Furthermore, keeping the bottom half warmed helps regulate the body’s natural temperature. Keeping the top half of the body warmed is much more damaging causing headaches, lethargy, dehydration and skin dryness.

Underfloor heating systems can also double up as a cooling system to keep your floors and rooms cool during the summer period. This is a good way to save money without having to resort to air conditioners, ceiling fans or buying cheap fans that do no more than circulate the warm air around.

Radiant heating is more costly due to the time it takes to heat up and the loss of heat energy which escapes through the gaps of each wall. Electric underfloor heating is generally not costly to install and can heat rooms individually rather than being turned on altogether. Radiator heaters can be switched on with a timer, but cannot be switched on individually unless you do this yourself manually. With most electric underfloor heating systems, this can be done from one place and can be controlled from the thermostat. Therefore you will not need to do this manually.

Some underfloor heating systems take time to warm up as they are a plumbed in water heating systems as opposed to electric. However, these still have the same quality of heating as an electric system and are just as energy efficient. These can also be controlled in the same way as an electric system and could save you money by warming up the house for a longer period of time. Generally the underfloor heating system is easy to install, leave minimal mess, space saving and are odour free.

Sometimes heating systems from a radiator can give off a certain scent due to its material and specified heater paint used to coat the radiator. This is not a toxic substance and is not harmful. However, it may cause discomfort, create a muggy air and a humid atmosphere. Underfloor heating does not work in the same way and makes the room feel warm through even distribution rather than causing the air to feel muggy.

One of the disadvantages of underfloor heating systems is that they only work well with a certain type of flooring and most will not work as efficiently with carpets. It is best to keep to wooden or tiled flooring of a certain material, in order for the rooms or your home to feel fully warmed up

Anna Stenning has recently installed electric underfloor heating and has managed to save more money on her bills.

A Guide To The Latest Photo Printer Technology

Whether buying for photo printing, home office or photocopying your extremities, the latest wave all in one photo printers claim to have revolutionised domestic photo print technology. This article objectively examines some of the latest market leaders in printer technology to evaluate what you are getting for your money.

This first up is the modestly priced Epson Stylus SX400 all-in-one photo printer. This comes under the Epson tag of cost-effective so is quite no thrills in certain areas. It does have an acceptable array of features and is pleasing to the eye with a sleek grey and black body. The aesthetic value does supersede the print quality however you expect that for around 70GBP. It has a relatively decent photo print quality, text output and scan capability and is perfect for those on limited budget. It is however a slow set-up process and has a slow print speed for a recent photo printer.

Next is a slight jump in price to 130GBP for the Lexmark X4650 all-in-one photo printer. This has many more features such as Wi-Fi, borderless printing and scan to memory card feature. All these are practical features that make life easier however there are some problems. The installation took an inordinate amount of attempts and the printing from memory card features are quite limited. The print quality does supersede that of the Epson and the overall performance was impressive, however the installation process can be a real pain.

The HP Photosmart C6280 all-in-one photo printer sits at the highest end of our price range at 250GBP. It has an excellent print quality and memory card reader whilst boasting six separate inks. All the focus has gone into improving the print quality of the photo printer and other features have been neglected. There is no Wi-Fi accessibility and the scanner flatbed is difficult to use. The previous HP photo printer flagship model C6280, came with more features and was cheaper, however the current model provides superlative print quality.

When deciding what photo printer you buy you have to weigh up your requirements against your budget. The all-in-one photo printer range offers a range of features and the best way to buy is match the features to your requirements. If you do not regularly need fantastic print quality then sacrifice it for price purposes, however the current range of all in one printers are providing cost effective quality photo printer solutions.

Is Goan Property Still A Wise Investment

Although it may not be such a common occurrence in today’s economic climate, some people still have the means to invest in property. Narrowing it down for the purposes of this article, you can choose between buying a property on home turf or investing in a foreign property. You could buy yourself a UK property that will see you living in relative comfort for many years. When you get bored you can go out and walk the hard, cold pavements of the UK’s towns and cities and take in all that dull, grey atmosphere that Britain is so famous for.

Alternatively, you could buy a foreign property. You could pick up a little place in a hotter climate, waking up to blue skies and warm breezes most days. Your walks would consist of burying your bare toes in white sand as soft as cotton wool, seeking shade under the palm trees lining the beach and bathing in the turquoise sea waters.

Many people have chosen this alternative to the depressing British life. Many of them chose to buy foreign property in Goa. This is a small area on the coast of India and is typically considered the jewel in the Indian crown. It has been a popular holiday destination since the early Sixties but more recently, foreigners have been buying up more and more property in the area in the hope of taking up residence or letting for holiday purposes.

This has caused a knock on effect of pushing up property prices beyond the reach of many locals and is causing a housing dilemma that the authorities are dealing with. However, their methods leave a lot to be desired. Laws have been changed without warning, meaning that many people are now being left with no proof of property ownership.

The particular law in question is the one that determines a legal Goan resident to be one that ‘resides in the country for any purpose that would indicate his intention to stay for an uncertain period of time’. The word ‘uncertain’ meant that many who invested in foreign property in Goa thought they owned the said property. However, the Government are cooling towards the idea of foreigners buying up their property and have now decided the word ‘uncertain’ does not mean ‘uncertain’.

Purchasers who have bought up property in the last five to eight years have found themselves without any legal ownership because they cannot prove legal residency.
On top of this, there have been changes to the Indian Registration Act that dates back 100 years. Home purchase documents presented to the registrar are being turned down, leaving the owners with no proof of ownership.

These changes seem highly unfair to the ex-pat community. Their homes have been purchased in good faith, they have invested in a beautiful country in the hope of seeing out their days and have bought no hardship on the country and yet they stand the risk of losing everything. The Governments claims that with foreigners buying up property, this has pushed up prices for Goan natives is disputed by many and they are left feeling that the Government simply what to get rid of them.

The recent murder of a British teenager on a Goan beach has also cast a cloud over the country and their tourist industry will suffer for a while until the event fades from people’s memories. You would think the Government would be more keen to keep up investment in the area at least until this phase passes.

Property expert Catherine Harvey looks at the issues for those investing in foreign property in Goa.
